About

johndevries

My name is John DeVries, I’m a 24 year old guy from Southwest Michigan.

First, I’d just like to welcome you to my blog and thank you for your interest and support. I started this blog under the name of LivingUtility.com at the beginning of February 2008. Though the mission and domain have changed since its inception, it’s still a blog about self-improvement. On that note, I don’t really have any particular skills or experience that qualify me as an expert or self-improvement guru. In fact, I’d be the first to tell you I’m neither. I’m just a regular guy with a regular life, though I don’t believe life can ever really be regular.

What I hope you’ll take away from my work is simply that I’m doing exactly what you’re doing, learning about life. But, since I have a bit of a passion for the web, video and creative endeavors , I choose to share my experiences with you on my blog. I’ve documented my insights here partly because I enjoy doing it, and partly because I hope you will learn from it. Not because I’m some kind of teacher, but because we’re all students.

My story

I graduated from college with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2007 with aspirations to become a police officer. However, after working on an ambulance for three years during college and doing an internship with a local Sheriff’s Department, I decided law enforcement wasn’t for me. I spent many months doing a bit of soul searching and ended up starting this blog and getting a job in the restaurant supply business.

I’m currently getting certified as a personal trainer and I’m excited to see how this blog will grow in the coming months and years. Thank you again for your interest and support. If you like what I’ve produced here on zenprovement.com, please feel free to sign up for my feed and/or email me with any comments or insights.

Thanks for dropping by.
